[React] 20 Years of Product Management in 25 Minutes by Dave Wascha
My react.
There is probably one part of the product management job we can all agree is the hardest - people. People are unpredictable, have strong opinions and unconscious biases, and many people in your organisation have more power than you, yet are wrong just as often. In this illuminating talk from Mind the Product San Francisco 2017 Janna Bastow, Co-Founder of Mind the Product and Co-Founder and CEO of ProdPad, shares her own stories of dealing with people, and how she handles the toughest part of the job.

"It's not rocket surgery" (lol!) I used to think this way about the role that Product SHOULD play in an organization. But after a couple decades working for large and small companies my understanding has shifted. Effective product development (let's include engineering too) is HARDER than rocket surgery/science. WAY HARDER. The conditions at most businesses: the leadership, the information available, the way they spend money, the way they bring in talent... this is one of the toughest jobs period. On the one hand it's a miracle anything gets done, on the other hand it makes sense the awful state of software product development people consider to be normal today.

Loved the tools shared by Ryan and am definitely going to use it in my PM career. A suggestion for the upcoming videos. The slide deck is barely visibile in the video and it is difficult to get the context of what is being discussed in the session without it. Is it feasible to focus on the screen to fit 100% view whenever the slides are shown for better clarity? Thank you.

that question re: WSJF (Weighted Shortest Job First) framework - in the context of this presentation, it's what Janna alluded to that it's a combination of some existing approaches. One might argue it's a mix between RICE and Weighted Scoring, with some add'l input parameters and things to consider.
